March 25: SimEcon: A possible path for economics

Computational astrophysicists created FLASH, a community tool for computer simulations of stars that go BANG! 

Astrophysicists are limited to watching things, like stars, explode (except for those who frequently fly to Los Alamos). Economic policymakers are good at making decisions that blow up in their face (actually, they are good at protecting their faces but not so good at protecting ours). Perhaps they should develop tools like FLASH to help them understand what they do.

Below are slides from some recent presentations that lay out the case for such an effort. Look at these for entertaining commentary and motivation. 

In this lecture, I will discuss the computational nuts and bolts involved in this effort.
